CLOUD RESILIENCE
Three Major Assistants Fail Simultaneously, Exposing Superficial Redundancy
ChatGPT, Claude, and Grok reported incidents during an overlapping window on 3 September. No common cause has been confirmed, but the coincidence reveals a risk many companies hide behind multiple logos: switching models does not always mean switching dependencies.

Official status pages allow fact to be separated from speculation. Claude first experienced elevated errors with Sonnet and later across several model families between 13:26 and 16:16 UTC. Grok reported a model outage starting at 13:30 UTC that lasted for about three and a half hours. OpenAI investigated errors in ChatGPT and Codex during the same afternoon and later marked the incident as resolved. The following day, it also reported a specific degradation for Asia-Pacific users that affected conversation, images, files, voice, and Codex Cloud.
The temporal overlap is enough to confirm a simultaneous impact, but not to attribute a shared origin. The providers have not published a joint explanation, and their status messages describe their own separate incidents. Turning a correlation into a story about a single cloud failure would be convenient, but premature. The useful conclusion is more sober: three commercial alternatives became unresponsive within the same window, just as many organisations consider them immediate replacements for one another.
A Catalogue of Providers Is Not a Continuity Plan
The visible architecture may be diverse while its foundations are shared. Two different assistants can depend on the same cloud region, the same identity provider, a common network, a model aggregator, or the same application that invokes them. The proprietary layer can also fail: quota limits, faulty deployment, routing, moderation, or a client update. Without a dependency map, a company knows how many models it has procured, but not how many single points of failure it retains.
